Meet Jeff

My name is Jeff Kirkwood.  I am a born-again Christian.  I have a wonderful family, a wife, a son named Preston and a daughter whose name is Makenna.  My life is an extraordinary one, not too many people in the world can wake up each morning and say, “I get to go fishing today!” 

Since starting a guide service many years ago, I have looked forward to every day on the water.  It’s absolutely amazing to get to witness the things others only get to hear and read about.  I anticipate every day on the water.  My father is the one who first put a rod and reel in my hands at a very early age (4 or 5 yrs. old).  You might say I even cut my teeth on Largemouth Bass Fishing.  Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I’d be fishing for a living.  There are only two things I know how to do; play a trumpet and catch bass.

After college I went into church ministry as a Music/Youth Minister for four years.  All the while fishing tournaments.  My father is the very one who taught me to be the man I feel I am today.  He taught me how to fish & hunt, but most of all, both my mother and father taught me who God is.

As the doors to the church ministry were closing I decided that I wanted to turn Pro.  So, I started a guide service.  After all, the only way you are going to become a better angler is by spending more time on the water.  Although, I was competing in local tournaments and doing pretty well I found that by having a guide customer in the boat everyday was a tournament.  I mean, if they (customer) don’t catch fish, they don’t come back.

I am extremely fortunate that I can honestly say, “I am a full-time fisherman.”  This is all I do and I am eat’up with it.  Not only do I love being a guide, teaching and watching customers catch fish, but I love the thrill of competition, it lets me know where I am in my field.  It has been and is a great thing to be able to look back and see the accomplishments I’ve made at the amateur level.  Each day that passes I not only want to do well as a guide, but I want to reach that final plateau of being a consistent professional tournament angler.  I’ve accomplished every goal I’ve placed in front of myself and have even exceeded where I thought I’d end up.  There’s just that one more step.  I have been blessed to assemble a great supporting cast of sponsors and family; it’s now just up to me!
